Tri-State ORGAN TRANSPLANT Support Group
Chattanooga, TN, area including North Georgia and North Alabama
Objectives: To establish and operate a support group for individuals who are candidates or recipients of organ transplantation at any stage in the transplant process.  To aid in the restoration of a positive outlook on life.  To promote public awareness of organ and tissue donation.  To disseminate information and materials to the general public.

Many families faced with the hardships of dealing with a transplant experience great physical, emotional, and financial struggles.  The Tri-State Transplant Support Group strives to provide its members with relief and support during these trying times.

   REASONS FOR JOINING A SUPPORT GROUP
*   Listen to others in similar situations
*   Get a feeling of security and belonging
*   Learn about transplant-related issues
*  Get help dealing with emotions and stress
*   Share helpful information with other patients
*   Learn more about support groups and other organizations

Joining a support group can be of great benefit to you, your family and friends.  Sharing your concerns, fears, struggles, experiences and triumphs with fellow patients and their families can be comforting, as well as give you encouragement and confidence.  People with similar conditions can provide a feeling of security and comfort and assure you that you are "not alone."

It is also encouraging to see how recipients who have had their transplants for several years, and their families, are coping and how they are enjoying their new life.  You'll meet people who are waiting for a transplant, those who have just had a transplant, and others who were transplanted many years ago.

Guest speakers inform you of trends in transplantation, new medications, insurance issues, stress relief, etc.  Groups share helpful information such as how to deal with insurance companies, where to find drugstores with the best service and prices, and much more.

Have you wondered how many people one organ donor can help?  Click here to see how one person can help over 50 people:  ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION (Requires Adobe Reader; thanks to TN Donor Services for providing this graphic).

Our November speaker was Dawn Benjamin from Tennessee Donor Services. Dawn explained the sequence of events from the time a person is in brain death until the transplant has been completed.

Previously Dawn Benjamin of Tennessee Donor Services  provided us with some forms that might be helpful to recipients who want to write a thank you letter to their donor family.  She also provided a form that would be helpful for recipients to write about their transplant experiences.  You can download these forms here (requires Adobe reader):
